The 1980s saw her furthering her dance and choreographic career in a variety
of traditional African musical productions. In 1985, Thembi was part
of AMAMPONDO as a choreographer, vocalist and lead dancer. AMAMPONDO performed
at the National Arts Festival in Glasgow, in 1986, and in 1987 toured Europe

in 1988 in Bournemouth, England. In 1988 AMAMPONDO was performed
at Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday concert. Thembi also performed in SEKUNJALO

in 1991.

From the late 1980s Thembi appeared in film and television roles including
the 1989 Agatha Christie film DEATH IN SAFARI, and in 1991 had a leading
role in "UMASHEZI" (South Africa's 'Dynasty' series in 13 episodes).
