BIOGRAPHY
Shika Budhoo, completed her BA Honours Degree (cum laude) in the Drama and
Performance Studies at the Univesity of Kwa-Zulu Natal in 2005. To date she has performed
in many university-based productions. Her professional career began in the 2005 Actors Co-operative
and Playhouse production of Macbeth (Lady MacDuff/Witch) for which she was nominated
for Best Female Newcomer at the 2005 Durban Theatre Awards. Later in that year she performed as
a narrator of poetry as part of a Flatfoot Dance Company piece 'Transmission: Mother to Child' at
the Durban Arts Gallery.
In 2006 Shika was a drama coach in various Glenwood (Durban) Primary Schools
with Centre Stage Studio's, moulding the youth in fun, educational and communicative Speech
and Drama skills. She has also been heard on various Lotus fm Radio Dramas acting in the
following: 'Kismet Court', 'Hitch Switch', 'Grandasia Lodge', 'Blue Alert', 'The Waiting Room',
'Muti', 'Spice and Stuff', 'Chase', 'A Touch of Karma', 'All for Justice', and most recently took
the role of Mrs. Singh Song in 'Lollipop Lane'. Since the emergence of the Radio soap, Lollipop Lane,
she has been in other Radio Drama's including, Paradise Inc, The Palace, A Touch of Karma,
Tuckshop and most recently Salty Towers.
Shika was also seen in 'To House' (Kajol) written
by Ashwin Singh and directed by Caroline Smart at the Playhouse Drama; for which she won
the Best Actress Award at the annual 2007 Fools Awards. 2007 saw her starting her year on stage
at the Catalina Theatre in 'Spice and Stuff' (Rita) playing the lead female, written by Ashwin Singh.
Shika has also done various screen projects including a trainee video for Boxers Superstore,
a role in the SABC 1 Bay of Plenty television series starring opposite Kaseran Pillay, and
a corporate advertisement.
2008, saw her make her debut in a short film "One Wedding and a Funeral" directed by James Brown.
She provides voice training for those performers who wish to improve the quality of their voice for performance and (corporate) work purposes. Was nominated for Best Actress in the 2008 Durban Theatre Fools Awards
for her performance in 'Spice and Stuff'. She is the Winner of the Charisma Award at the 2008 Fools Awards,
held on the 1st of April 2008 at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. She traveled to
the 2008 Grahamstown National Arts Festival as a junior reviewer for the Durban internet Arts magazine,
Artsmart. In July 2008 she has been seen in the stage production called 'New Suburbia', at
the Catalina Theatre and Sibaya Casino. The show was redesigned as the 'Looney Lahnee Show' hosted
by SunCoast Casino and Entertainment as well as the Catalina Theatre.
She has most recently been in
the musical production, 'Jimbo', at the Playhouse Drama, a musical comedy written by One
of Durban's Living Legends, Hamish Kyd. She is currently working on writing her one-woman show.
