BIOGRAPHY

Judy Ditchfield began her acting career at the tender age of 5 in Pacts production
of Madame Butterfly as Trouble with International singing stars Elizabeth Vaughn
and David Hughes, and basically has never stopped since. She won the FNB Vita Award for
comedy in 1994/5 for the role of Celeste in Paul Slabolepszy's play Heel Against the Head.

She has also been nominated for Vita Awards on several occasions including for
Best supporting actress for HEEL AGAINST THE HEAD, for her role as Celeste, 1995/1996 in
the REGIONAL VITA AWARDS, KWAZULU NATAL, as Best Supporting Actress
for FIELA'S CHILD: THE MUSICAL, for her role as Barta, 1998/1999, in CAPE VITA AWARDS,
and for REGIONAL VITA AWARDS, KWAZULU NATAL, Best Performance In A Comedy, Female,
in COMRADES ARMS, 2000/2001, and last year nominated for the 2006 NALEDI THEATRE AWARDS,
Best Comedy Performance (Female) in a Play, Musical or Revue for MENOPAUSE: THE MUSICAL.

After studying for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Speech and Drama from
the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, she was immediately appointed to
NAPAC'S Loft Theatre Company of which she was a founder member.
Her experience there was extensive, performing in over 36 productions in just
under three years. Highlights were KWAMANZI, EVERY GOOD BOY DESERVES FAVOUR, and the
lead in the premiere of Paul Slabolepszys' BOO TO THE MOON and Janice Honeymans'
TALES FROM THE PLEASURE PALACE, the latter two commissioned specifically for the company.
Judy also played Christiana in the musical CHRISTIAN.

She moved to Johannesburg in 1987 to freelance and her busy and varied life began.
Her musical career kicked off with many cabaret shows including
IT'S STILL ROCK AND ROLL TO ME and IT'S ALL FRIGHT BY ME at Club 58, TARTS in
Botswana and Cape Town followed by A TOUCH OF TONIC performed at the
Market Theatre's Yard Of Ale. Many musicals followed, the long running A TOUCH OF WEBBER,
A TASTE OF RICE for Richard Loring, THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY for Pact, which starred
the West Ends Craig Urbani as Buddy, Barta in FIELA'S CHILD: THE MUSICAL for which she
was nominated, Pact's pantomime SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS and many more.
More recently she appeared in QUEEN: THE CONCERT and was directed by Hugh Wooldridge
in THE NIGHT THEY INVENTED CHAMPAGNE, a tribute to Alan Jay Lerner, which was musically
directed by David Firman.

Theatre highlights have included IS THE MOUSE BOSS? And WHEN THE CAT'S AWAY
(Pieter Toerien Productions), RAINSHARK (Neil McCarthy at the Market Theatre),
TRAVELLING SHOTS (Pact) and HEEL AGAINST THE HEAD (both written by Paul Slabolepszy)
for which she received the FNB/TONIGHT VITA COMEDY AWARD for her role of Celeste.
She was seen in the State Theatre Company's Production of MACBETH,
Alan Ayckbourn's THE THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE for Pieter Toerien Productions and
more recently in COMRADES ARMS for which she was also nominated.

Her television work has included guest appearances in SUBURBAN BLISS, SONNEKRING II,
THE GAME II, STREAKS I and II and the lead in a hospital drama, ANGELS.
More recent television work has included HOOF OF AFRICA, a Japanese/South Africa
Co Production, YIZO YIZO, ZERO TOLERANCE and for the past 2 years she has become a
very familiar face in one of South Africa's most successful daily drama's
ISIDINGO as Stella Fouche. Film work has also become a regular for her, and she
recently appeared in the Oscar nominated director, Darryl Roodt's film FAITHS CORNER.
Other film work has included Bronwyn Hughes film STANDER, GLORY GLORY, CAPE OF GOOD HOPE
and most recently Paul Slabolepszy's latest film RUNNING RIOT.
Judy is also an accomplished voice over artist having dubbed lead voices for the BBC in a
series called TINY TOTS and REAP THE WHIRLWIND, a French South African Co Production, and
a German series PUMUCKL. She also recently dubbed South Africa's first animated
series THE MAGIC CELLAR that has just won the Platinum REMI Award, and which has been
bought by HBO. She is currently appearing on Isidingo as Stella Fouche.

Judy is married to actor, television presenter and musician, Paul Ditchfield and has two
sons Keaton and Thomas.
