BIOGRAPHY
July 2002 Ernest 'Ernie B' St Clair entered in the
Coca Cola Popstars made through the preliminary round
out of 10 000 applicants. He then was invited to
workshops held at a discreet lodge out of the public
eye. The workshop ran for a period of a week where
40 finalists were scaled down to 10. Ernie B qualified
as one of the 10 finalists, but was not chosen as one
of the top 5. This did not stop him; there were
greater prospects in store.
Due to Public demand a Record Company
namely: Virgin Records and television Production Company
Tartan decided to give the remaining 5 an opportunity
to excel in the music industry. Two months later
contracts were signed and the remaining 5 formulated
the group Afro-Z. The first single was released in
late November 2002 called "Phenomenal".
In April 2003
they all moved down to Johannesburg to launch their
debut album ad work on their live repertoire. They then
toured numerous parts of Africa and performed with
local and International artists which include;
Mandoza, Mafikizolo, Eas Coast Flava, Ernie Smith;
Mzekezeke, Benzino, Ja Rule and the late Brenda Fassie.
Most of Afro-Z's songs topped the charts at number 1.
The longest period that one of their songs held the
number 1 slot was 6 weeks both on Heart 104.9 Radio,
Goodhope FM (Cape Town) and Highveld (Jo`burg).
All the individuals have pursued there solo careers
and Ernie B has released his 12 track solo debut
album called "Take Pleasure" which was showcased
October 2006; which is soon to be distributed in
various music stores. "Perfect Remedy" features on
the compilation cd 'Heart and soul of Cape Town Vol 3'.
He also launched his solo music video
"Let's get Freaky" in May 2007 and was soon seen on
various Television channels.
As for all the Barnyard Show's Ernie has done quite an
array of styles over the past 3-4 years at the Barnyard
paying Tribute to artists such as Simon & Garfunkel,
Eagles, Wilson Pickett, Michael Jackson, James Brown
the list goes on.
Ernie B is also a professional Hip Hop Dancer and has
performed for big brands such as Puma, Addidas,
Vodacom and Nike.
As much as Ernie B is an entertainer he is also an
aspiring entrepreneur and has recently started his own
company Pipeline Records CC. and is currently busy on
a project to tour schools enhancing their arts and
culture and also doing a Drug Awareness campaign.
